Gender, Youth, HIV/AIDS
We run a programme aimed at empowering rural communities on the dangers of HIV/AIDS.
The Gender, Youth, HIV/AIDS project operates within the ambit of RLRDP's broader vision, provides current information on HIV/AIDS.
It provides a platform to share information and experiences on HIV/AIDS among the youths and uses discussions, theatre, print and non-print material to disseminate this information.
It involves men and women, boys and girls at a grassroots level. This is because development is gender inclusive.

Children's Mobile Libraries
The motive behind the RLRDP's Children's Mobile Libraries is to pull communities out of poverty by surrounding children with books and knowledge. There are currently ten donkey drawn children's mobile libraries, funded by Save the Children Norway Zimbabwe.
They operate in Nkayi, Bubi and Tsholotsho districts.
The programme also aims to consolidate existing services in order to improve delivery, training of more child librarians and the strengthening of child led committees, and holding of community mobilization meetings for greater participation and support at local level.

Donkey Drawn Renewable Solar Energy E-Library
The project consists of a donkey drawn cart on which there is a computer that works on solar energy.
This is quite a development that brings the power of information to previously excluded rural communities.
This is expected to address the anomalies between rural and urban communities, between women and men and between young people and old people, in terms of access to ICTs.

Rural connectivity project
Computerization is central to development, especially in educational and information areas and the RLRDP is involved in a Rural Connectivity Project.
This project is aimed at assisting rural school and community libraries access computers and computer education.
RLRDP has been able to do this with the assistance of both government and private companies who have donated computers to school and community libraries.

Training and Publications
This project handles the training of rural librarians, library management committees and the production of RLRDP publications.
The RLRDP has produced a manual, which was first published in 1992, and was revised in 1999.

Rural Libraries Advancement
At a time of scarce resources, sticking together is a strategy worth pursuing. Libraries close to each other have formed clusters to exchange material and experiences in library development.
RLRDP has encouraged exchange visits across the country's provinces of Manicaland, Mashonaland West, Masvingo, Midlands, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South.
